Sora Aviation Successfully Commissions Battery Performance Test Lab

Sora Bath Battery Testing.png

We’ve officially begun testing the energy storage system for the Sora S-1 at the IAAPS centre, in collaboration with the University of Bath. Our batteries are being evaluated on a bespoke test rig in an environmental chamber to simulate a range of operating conditions — from hot summer days to cold winter mornings — while we characterise the performance of both the batteries and the thermal management systems.

This work is led by Zi Yeo, Principal Battery Engineer, whose experience at Vertical Aerospace, Electroflight, and Evolito makes him a leading expert in eVTOL battery systems.

“Pushing energy density while maintaining safety and certifiability demands state-of-the-art electrical and thermal testing — exactly what IAAPS delivers.”

— Zi Yeo, Principal Battery Engineer, Sora Aviation

This work is part of the BatWing project, and we’re grateful to the Aerospace Technology Institute for their support in helping us push the boundaries of battery energy density for aerospace applications.
